This is JET – the Joint European Torus – currently the largest tokamak in the world. Have a look at this video to get an idea of the size and scale of this machine.
A JET experiment. This is what the plasma looks like inside JET (shown in visible light).
This is an animation of the robots on JET. They are more accurately called “remote handling” because they are operated by people. Animations like this are used alongside cameras so that the operators can see exactly what they are doing.
Robot operators need a lot of practice because great accuracy is required in sometimes fiddly work. This is a video of somebody practicing using the robots – playing extra-large Jenga!
